Multifunction Color Laser Printer

The day the multifunction printer was invented, the world of business changed. Before the all-in-one businesses needed a standalone for every function they needed, which included faxing, scanning, copying and printing. Everything about this was bothersome and inferior to the idea of a single device to include them all.

You had to fit two to four bulky devices in the same office, they all ate power and consumables which had to be replaced periodically and on top of it all they all cost a lot to buy initially. The multifunction printer leaves you only with the last problem, a rather high price, that is only if you want very good quality and won’t settle for a cheaper laser.

Brother is a company that produces more than just all-in-ones. They occupy their time with designing standalone printers, top of the line office machinery, fax machines and even sowing machines. The company has introduced a new multifunction color laser printer to the market that offers a long series of useful features. The MFC-9450 CDN offers a bit of everything. Speed, quality of prints, features are all average and above average and should make this printer a great competitor for the attention of small offices.

The Brother MFC-9450 CDN has the design of your typical Brother product and office laser all-in-one. It’s boxy, white and gray with a blue control panel and the only thing it ever inspires is functionality and productivity, as should be. On the control panel there are buttons for all functions (fax, scan, copy) as well as alphanumeric keys for dialing numbers. Every single button on the printer is labeled so you should find your way around what everything does pretty easily. On top of the device you’ll find an automatic document feeder that holds a total of 35 sheets.

As you might know if you’ve already used a device with ADF, this feature is very convenient for simply putting the stack of documents there and carrying on to other occupations while the printer gets the job done. The total paper storage capacity is composed of a 250 main input tray, 50-sheet multipurpose tray and the ADF. If that’s not enough Brother offers optional 500 sheet paper trays for purchase.

Brother claims printing speeds of up to 20 pages per minute for both monochrome and color printing and seems to estimate correctly as the printer can in fact achieve those speeds. Quality however is a bit under what they claim to be ‘exceptional’. Text printing looks very good indeed, but when it comes to color graphics this printer looses some points. The result looks somewhat washed out and dull.

If your office needs exceptional quality color prints then there are much better devices out there than this one. If not, then the MFC-9450CDN will work well for any small office or workgroup that mostly places value on multiple functions and black text document printing. This multifunction color laser printer can be found for roughly $600.
