Canon Portable Photo Printers

Many dedicated photo printers have been released in the past few years and it’s up to the user to select the one that they like most. Some people prefer printers they can hold in the safety and comfort of their home, on their desk while others would be more enthusiastic about portable photo printers that they can take along anywhere.

Professionals who need to print photos on the go, at various fairs or events are also not to be ignored and manufacturers are well aware of that. Canon is one of the companies that specializez in offering quality photo printers for many many years. The lineup of Canon portable photo printers includes quite a large number of such devices. One of them would be the Selphy CP400.

This little printer is easy to set up as well as use and offers enough versatility for users who love printing their photos wherever they may travel. Aside from printing while connected to a computer through USB, the Canon Selphy CP400 can also print directly from a compatible digital camera through PictBridge. The technology it uses is dye-sublimation. Opposed to inkjet, dye-sublimation doesn’t produce small droplets of ink but actually uses heat to turn solid ink into vapors that are then transferred to the paper.

This technology has many advantages. The print quality is higher, photos look more realistic and the finished product is both smudge and waterproof. You get photographs that will last for almost a hundred years if stored correctly which is more than many of us would ever need.

The printer is also capable of handling several paper sizes from credit card to 4 by 8 inch. While most people mainly use 4 by 6 inch paper, it’s nice to have several options just in case you ever need them. Printing speed was never impressive for portable photo printers. The Selphy CP400 has a satisfying output speed of 1 minute and a half for a 4 by 6 inch photo. While this might not blow your mind away, most users that want to print photos are well aware that quality needs time and are rarely in a hurry.

Printing from a digital camera may result in an even faster printing speed. Photo quality is definitely very good for this printer. The only problem with it is that it on occasion may print out a photo that tends to look overexposed. Dye-sublimation technology, that most Canon portable photo printers use, means you’ll be replacing consumables with the kits of ink and paper the manufacturer provides. They aren’t cheap but can’t be considered extremely expensive either. The 108 photo pack will lead you to around 46 cents per print.

If you’re a photo enthusiast that needs to print on the go and wants a good and light travel buddy to accompany a digital camera, the Canon Selphy CP400 is a good choice provided you’re okay with how much the consumables will cost you throughout use.
